Last year, we had the pleasure of conducting an interview with the BBC about something we are incredibly excited about: men’s engagement rings trend. We discussed how they’re breaking traditions, redefining relationships and becoming a powerful symbol of love and self-expression nowadays.
From changing gender roles to the growing demand for inclusivity in the jewelry world, men’s engagement rings have been making waves. Fast forward a year, and the demand is stronger than ever and continuing to grow. They are no longer just a niche choice but represent a modern approach to love and commitment.
Today, we want to revisit that conversation and dive deeper into why this shift matters, how men’s engagement rings are designed differently and what’s driving their rising popularity.
For most of history, engagement rings were almost exclusively worn by women as a symbol of a promise of marriage and, in some cases, a transfer of wealth or a family alliance. In many cultures, the ring was a way to show that a woman was “spoken for,” a practice rooted in more traditional gender roles. Engagement rings for men were virtually unheard of in many cultures until recent years. Men typically did not wear any rings until the wedding band, if at all.
However, changing gender roles, a growing emphasis on equality in relationships and increased representation of the LGBTQ+ community have all played important roles in reshaping norms. Over the past three years, we have seen a rise in demand for men’s engagement rings. This is not just a fleeting trend though; it’s a result of a major shift in how we view relationships today. They are now more equal, inclusive and centered around love rather than tradition. It’s no surprise that jewelry brands too are stepping up by offering genderless designs and expanding collections to cater to these evolving dynamics.
Whether it's a same-sex couple or a heterosexual one, more and more men are embracing the idea of wearing engagement rings. The main reason behind this rising trend is that men are embracing their individuality and expressing their love through jewelry. They want to show their feelings and commitment openly, without being held back by traditional gender norms. Jewelry is a great way to do that because it’s personal, meaningful and long lasting. A ring or a special piece of jewelry can say so much about style, love, memories and the story it carries.
This trend also reflects a shift towards equality. Wearing an engagement ring is a way to show mutual commitment and is not associated with any of the old-fashioned, gendered traditions anymore. It’s a modern symbol of equal partnership and shared love. So, it makes total sense that more men want to express their love and commitment with an engagement ring.
The influence of trendsetters, like celebrities and influencers, also plays a big role in driving this trend and cannot be overlooked. They are wearing men’s engagement rings and showing the world that these rings can be just as fashionable and meaningful for men as they are for women.
Men’s engagement rings usually have a different look than women’s when it comes to design and style. The design trends for men’s engagement rings often revolve around practicality, subtlety, comfort and self-expression. Let’s take a closer look at some popular elements and why they resonate:
With so many versatile and practical options, men’s engagement rings offer something for everyone. As more couples embrace this new trend, we can expect to see even more innovative and stylish designs in the future.
At Eternate, we are beyond excited to be among the first to introduce a dedicated men’s engagement ring collection, blending the latest trends with classic style. We are thrilled to be part of this cultural evolution by crafting rings that reflect modern values and timeless devotion.
While men’s engagement rings might not yet be the “norm,” the trend is definitely growing. It’s reshaping the way we think about love, commitment and how to express them. As we continue to see this demand rise, one thing is clear: the future of engagement rings is all about inclusivity, equality and self-expression, and we are here for it.
